Exposed to the fashion industry early on thanks to his mother (she designed and made wedding dresses) Roper became prolific with sewing machines by his early teens. This Is Nudie Jeans

Nudie Jeans

Average Joe Jeans in Organic Sharp Used Wash

Whilst not particularly a new brand for us Nudie Jeans are a noteworthy brand that has somehow gone overlooked, well no more!

Established in 1999 Nudie Jeans have since shot to fame through various channels. Using organic materials and dedication Nudie have created an iconic Jean.

Nudie specialises in raw and pre-washed denim jeans, but the company’s collection includes many other items of casual clothing & accessories. In 2003, denim jeans comprised 70% of their total sales. In 2004, Nudie’s net income increased by 70%. The brand is, alongside Acne Jeans, WESC and J. Lindeberg, one of the most successful new Swedish clothing companies (both domestically & internationally); Nudie clothing retails in over 20 countries. Not bad to come all this way after such a humble beginning aye?

Proving that nothing is impossible with the proper dedication Nudie continues to climb their way up the fashion ladder.

Believing that denim should be nurtured and cared for, Nudie take their time and by using old style looms Nudie create their own selvage denim. Woven using one continuous cross thread; the weft. As the weft returns back to the edge of the ply the selvage edge is formed. This edge is usually stitched with a coloured thread. This process is much slower than the more conventional method, but using the best raw materials around the finished product is more than worth the wait.

Humor – Quirky Chic

November 17th, 2011 by Pete Manhire

Humor
Humor are a young Danish brand with a lot of passion, believing the world should live in colour they produce some outrageous items that will definitely make you stand out in any situation. Not to be sneered at Humor manage to make the wild look respectable, their wacky mixes of colours all seem to come together perfectly.

Drawing inspiration from the electronic music scene and the ever changing city fashion scene they develop clothing for the individual rather than the collective. Offering a quirky alternative to ‘standard’ clothing with their flashy colours and designs Humor is perfect in all situations, whether kicking back with friends at home or out on the town tearing it up.

Mastering in the slightly bizarre Humor are never afraid to try new things mixing up shirts with leather buckles and half button plackets, or funnel neck asymmetric half button through t-shirts. But it works not a lot of brands can make the things Humor do and get away with it, and that is why we LOVE Humor.

”At HUMÖR it’s OK for things to be in a state of flux – the colours, patterns, graphic prints, styling. It’s casual, edgy, different. That’s why we are working with a whole new silhouette that samples elements from work wear, sportswear and classic club wear. It may be a detail mounted in a surprising new way, or mixed in over a piece of clothing just as a beat is mixed in over a well-known piece of music. Street style from Tokyo, Berlin, London and New York plays a part, but we get our inspiration from all sorts of places: colours on advertising posters from the 80’s or graphic design on tracksuits from the early 70’s, plus a good dose of cyber culture and humour”.

Give Humor a go next time your looking to add a bit of an edge to your wardrobe.

ONETrueSaxon – ONEBritishIdeal

November 16th, 2011 by Pete Manhire

ONETrueSaxon

ONETrueSaxon was set up with a simple idea and that was to be truly unique. Not to chase the transient trends of today but to be devoted to creating clothing that everyone and anyone could purchase and be proud of. With this in mind we are happy to bring you our selection of ONETrueSaxon a true brand for the modern age.

What other brand can boast that they are not lured in by the ‘in’ fashion and just create garments that they themselves are 100% happy with. None, every brand has a niggling pain of trying to keep on trend, but that’s just British stubbornness for you I suppose.

True style is timeless and that’s what you’ll be buying into when you purchase ONETrueSaxon, a very honest brand (you only have to look at their website to see that) and very good at what they do. They remain relatively withdrawn in the industry not trying to overexpose themselves happier instead with appealing to their own customer base and using other retailers to get their name out there in a controlled manner. Ours included thankfully.

Whilst our range is selective it is also diverse which is perfect for adding the finishing touches to your winter wardrobe, warm jackets to keep away that winter chill or a casual polo shirt for that extra layer. Complete your look with dark wash jeans and boots. We’ve got it all and were proud to say it.

This Autumn/Winter season why not try some ONETrueSaxon in your outfit find it here at The Menswear Site

Lacoste – The Most Famous Crocodile In The World

November 14th, 2011 by Pete Manhire

LacosteThe Lacoste brand is the legend of a fantastic tennis player, René
Lacoste, a member of the famous “Musketeers” team, and a star of the
courts at Wimbledon, Forest Hills, and Roland Garros.
René Lacoste made a strong first impression in the world of tennis
with his brilliant, strategic, and tenacious court strategy. He won
the French Open three times (1925, 1927, and at Roland Garros Stadium
in 1929), Wimbledon twice (1925 and 1928), and the U.S. Open at Forest
Hills twice (1926 and 1927). His exploits are those of a generation,
which, in the early years of the 20th century really invented the sport as we know it today while remaining faithful to traditional values.

From these values and the idea of the sport to which they were linked, René Lacoste, the champion, invented sportswear.
Born in the early 1930s, the famous “1212” “petit piques” shirt was the answer to the specific requirements of a small elite group of
sportsmen. Supported by the exploits of its founder and by the legendary crocodile, an emblem that quickly became famous, the “1212”
soon became popular with the public and a great brand was born.

The Lacoste crocodile is one of the most famous and recognizable logos in the world. Its birth was accidental since it came from a simple bet between the members of the French tennis team in 1925. While walking through the elegant streets of the Boston , René Lacoste stopped in front of a boutique where his eye was drawn to a superb suitcase made of crocodile skin and he said to Pierre Gillou, the captain of the team, “If I win the match, you must buy me this suitcase.” In the days that followed, the story was told to a journalist and, although the French team did not win, the journalist reported the story, saying “The young Lacoste has not won his crocodile skin suitcase but he fought like a real crocodile.” As early as 1927, his friend and great sportsman, Robert George, designed a crocodile with its mouth wide open, which René Lacoste wore conspicuously on his blazer.

It was in 1927 that René Lacoste had made for himself a batch of shirts he said were “more comfortable to wear in the heat of the American courts.” These shirts were of a mesh material, which completely absorbed perspiration, and they caused a sensation on the courts. Lacoste’s shirt allowed freedom of movement while remaining gracefully elegant. The shirt has redefined men’s sportswear, replacing thepopular long-sleeved, starched, woven shirts of that day. Because it had a collar, it looked equally as graceful and refined on the tenniscourt as it did under tennis blazers and sweaters. In 1933 Andre Gillier, the owner of one of the biggest and oldest hosiery factories in Troyes specializing in mesh materials, entered the scene and the two men joined forces and set up a company tomanufacture the crocodile logo-embroidered pique knit shirt. They created “La Chemise Lacoste” and the brand name was registered in June
1933.

Lacoste continued to work on his inventions and designs until shortly before he died in 1996 at the age of 92. He left a global empire that
was presided over by his son, Bernard Lacoste, who was the president of the Company from 1963 until his death in 2006. In 2006, Mr. Franck Riboud, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Danone Group, and Director of Accor Group, L’Oreal, Renault, and Quicksilver,
was appointed as new Director and Michel Lacoste, Bernard Lacoste’s closest collaborator, was appointed Chairman of the Board and CEO of Lacoste S.A.

Today, the legacy of this remarkable man is an expansive collection of sports and active wear for men, women, and children, as well as
fragrance, eyewear, footwear, watches, and technical products for tennis and golf, which all display the famous crocodile. The largest
logo product yet is a racing yacht !

When René Lacoste died in 1996 at the age of 92, “The Crocodile” lived on. And like most great brands, it continues to adapt to the changing marketplace.

Stone Island – Originality in Flawless Design

November 10th, 2011 by Pete Manhire

Stone Island JacketStone Island JacketStone Island JacketStone Island was created in 1982 but not as you would expect. Originally named the C.P company Stone Island came to pass when a jacket that did not fit the C.P company catalogue was created using a new fabric dubbed ‘Tela Stella’ (the burlap star). This consisted of a heavy lorry tarpaulin being put into a washing machine with water and pumice stone and washed for hours.

This ‘outcast’ set up a trend following their creation 7 jackets were made using the same formula. Stone Island was born with a more nautical feel and a military twist it set itself apart from the C.P company counterparts. The name ‘Stone Island’ evoked a love for the sea as did the treatment used to create the garments.  The iconic label bears the Compass Rose and has been worn on every jacket like an insignia since that very first outcast.

This season sees a successful return for the titan of the industry. With their new range of jackets that really brings Stone Island into the new era. We are happy to be your place to buy quality Stone Island products.

Check out the 45309 jacket for example on the face of it, it seems a simple jacket but style in simplicity isn’t something to be knocked. The 45309 has fleece lining is weatherproof and is resin treated making water runoff it instead of soaking into you undergarments.

Or we have the extravagant 45644 Liquid Reflective jacket. This jacket has fibreglass coated main, a technical lined hideaway hood is fleece lined and is weatherproof.  Offering anyone complete comfort through the cold winter ahead, no worries. Not to mention how cool it looks.

There is plenty of Stone Island to sink your teeth into this season on The Menswear site don’t just take my word for it check it out yourself.

Gabicci – Retro Chic

November 8th, 2011 by Pete Manhire

GabicciLaunched in 1973, Gabicci first came into being when its two creators were inspired by a trip to the Italian seaside resort of Gabicce Mare. A mixture of East End rag trade expertise, sharp Italian styling and a nod to the ’50′s rock and screen icons and the look was born. Gabicci fast became an underground style leader and embodied a look adopted by the ‘Northern Soul’ music scene.  In the ’80′s the brand appeared in the early ‘casuals’ look. Worn with a pair of Farah trousers, Gabicci and the iconic metal G quickly became a key look for anyone in that scene or wanting to be associated to it. Lately, several key music style leaders and sportsmen have been spotted wearing Gabicci Vintage, and the brand featured heavily in the new Nick Love re-make of  the ’80′s film ‘The Firm’.

Through this continuing association both with football and the young music scene, Gabicci Vintage is again the brand to be seen in. Current designs pay homage to key original knitted styles complete with mock suede trims, together with jersey tops and polos inspired by archive photographs and original samples, all bearing the iconic gold ‘G’.  The look is ‘slim’ with quality yarns and fabrics used throughout the collection in colours which are both rich and bright. Polo shirts are in superspft 100% cotton, whilst the knitwear is fine knit cotton with a cashmere feel finish and high quality merino wool blends.
