Spring/Summer 2011 – Stay Ahead

Friday, June 17th, 2011

This season sees massive variety in the fashion industry, and in these times where its key to ‘stay on trend’ it can get slightly confusing. But with our help you might be able to remain one step ahead, sure its obvious that chinos and deck shoes are in this year but there are alternatives.

If like me you don’t want to be wearing the same thing as all of your friends then you need to make sure either you’re telepathic or you just add your own little twists. I know it seems redundant to take ideas about being individual from someone else but it might just work. For example there are slightly quirkier clothing labels that offer an edgier look (Bolongaro Trevor, Humor and Denham to name a few) these simple modifications can add a little bit of individuality to even the most tired looks.

For those who like a bit more of a slim look there are various brands to choose from, for jeans we bring you Diesel and Nudie. Chinos there is Criminal Damage and Monkee. Then adorn with Amplified or Duck And Cover and many others, our summer footwear range is something to be marvelled at our two main contenders have to be Lacoste and Fred Perry. Or for a more smart casual look we have Ted Baker, Paolo Vandini and Lavenham.

The main players this summer are all putting out similar products so its going to prove quite difficult to get an original piece, difficult but not impossible.  You’ll see many variants of the same outfit its just up to you to find something that works for you.

Monkee Genes – Gene-ius

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Monkee GenesMonkee Genes are a simple yet lucrative brand, relatively understated for the work they do and the effort the do it with, using organic fabrics they are made or rather created as an economical alternative to ordinary chinos and jeans.

An essential look for this summer teamed with plain tees or a lightweight knit atop casual plimsolls or espadrilles, these versatile garments are a must have this year. With all the commitment that is poured into every pair and all the ingredients used will see you never wanting to take them off.

Designed in England, Monkee Genes  was born in 2006 out of a frustration and boredom with the jeans market  and offers a fresh, vibrant and youthful  direction. Quality of fit and make are high on the Monkee Genes agenda. In a world of cheap and disposable fashion manufactured without soul or identity, Monkee Genes offers an antithesis.

With Monkee Genes comes another key philosophy No Blood, No Sweat, No Tears, manufactured with a conscience and without the use of child labour or sweatshops, brings another brand that sets a marker and awaits everyone else’s response.

Since July 2008 Monkee Genes has been awarded the Soil Association  organic standard and the Global Organic Textile Standard /  “G.O.T.S”. These are the first affordable, organic jeans with this accreditation. The “G.O.T.S” means that all working standards are subject to thorough checks and are considered as important as the environmental factors. This involves each and every stage of the process being taken into consideration from the cotton growing and picking down to the content of the button and label.

There are few brands that are as dedicated to making sure both their garments and employees are this well looked after, which in itself speaks volumes. Monkee Genes, new to TheMenswearSite.com for Spring/Summer 2011 try them yourselves it will be one of the best choices you’ll ever make. Guaranteed.

Toms – One For One

Toms Espadrilles LogoThis year marks a breakthrough for espadrilles and plimsolls, it seems all brands are trying their hand as these simple yet brilliant pieces of footwear. You may see cheaper alternatives elsewhere but at TheMenswearsite.com we are devoted to bring you the very best in mens designer clothing and footwear, and I personally think this season we have surpassed ourselves. How? well its simple, we bring you Toms.

They are in themselves a high quality fashion footwear with their sleek design and simple appearance they bring together almost any outfit. But what truly set these apart from any other brand is the ‘One For One’ incentive.

Started in 2006 by American traveller Blake Mycoskie this revolution in charity caused a riot (in a good way). Seeing the conditions in which Argentinian children were living in Blake decided to start a ‘foundation’. Seeing that children were running around barefoot which in torrid conditions can lead to many problems as listed below, Blake set about to change it.

A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.

Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.

Many times children can’t attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don’t have shoes, they don’t go to school. If they don’t receive an education, they don’t have the opportunity to realize their potential.

And thus Toms was born and by selling his shoes Blake was able to return later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by Toms customers.

Every pair bought is a pair donated. One For One.

This is a truly remarkable scheme, for us Toms are more than just fashion they’re a movement.

Luke 1977 – Dream In Denim

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Luke 1977 JeansThis is Luke 1977’s twist of everything associated with denim and its history…

It’s a common misconception that the history of denim, the world’s most famous fabric started in the cowboy days of America: We believe it started in the Wild West…The Wild West Midlands that is!

At the very start of the Worlds Industrial Revolution the grafters in the foundries of the Black Country created a need. Thousands of industrial workers were toiling in extreme conditions, creating the raw materials the world needed to shake itself from the middle ages. Each worker desired the same thing, superior quality overalls to protect them from all that they were subject to.

With this history and heritage in mind, Spring Summer 2011 sees the introduction of two brand new areas of the Luke 1977 Collection…Black Country Overalls and Forever in Luke Jeans.  Simple jeans with a sleek twist sees new washes and fits creeping out the fashion woodwork.

Slimmer legs, higher rise waists and above all contemporary finesse and dedication on every pair. The quality of the jeans shines through wear after wear and just makes your legs look good. Wear with anything for a simple yet head turning look. Brilliance in simplicity.

Lacoste L!VE – Unconventional Chic

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Lacoste L!veLacoste L!VE is more of a statement than a new collection, sure it brings a wide new range of clothing but it also brings so much more to Spring/Summer 2011.

It takes all of Lacoste’s previous success and injects it with a new combination of conventional clothing and ‘artistic’ flair. Bringing in the vintage crocodile with new vibes shaking up polo shirts, jeans and jackets with a more youthful figure hugging fit. Truly moving with the times Lacoste are not afraid to show why they are one of the world’s leaders, never shying away and incorporating a whole new energy in every new piece.

The screaming combination of colours that reinvent the classical preppy look, bringing it into the future. ‘Unconventional Chic’ requires no alteration, appealing to the youthful exuberance it mixes influences from Hungarian French op-art painter Victor Vasarely and sculptor Daniel Buren (creator of the “Colonnes de Buren” in the Palais Royal in Paris). Obsessed with all things striped they have paved the way for Lacoste to delve into elaborate palettes of reds, greens and blues. Mixing colours to create a look that in both edgy and smart.

The Lacoste crocodile is the branding on all garments but the clothing stands apart from the Lacoste main ranges and the sports line, the label inside each piece is plain white with L!VE in red. The crocodile is alive and well and L!VE is a bold move by Lacoste to show a new generation how to wear the crocodile with Unconventional Chic.
